Barrels and Bushveld was started by Jerome and Kelly Synold as a means of exhibiting their enthusiasm and passion for South African wine. This passion was derived from numerous joyous hours of traversing dirt roads seeking unique and transformative wines produced in one of the least representative wine locations. South African wineries include the most stunning vineyards in the world. Views of Dutch-gabled farm houses set against against the lush greenery of the vineyards with an expansive ocean view are embedded in our minds. However, it is the quality and value of the wine that has driven this passion project in which we hope to bring our customers interesting, high quality wines at reasonable prices. We hope that you love the wines and stories as much as we do. In fact, we are so confident that you will fall in love with South Africa that we have also created a customized guided tours which include wine tours (which includes free shipping of your wines), wildlife safaris and beach days and/or city stays. These tours are based on our decades of experience in South Africa and we can personally attest to the exhilaration of each itinerary.

We are licensed wine sellers and importers which allows us to uniquely curate our wine selection. We have spent years drinking and traveling through every wine region within South Africa. We have personally visited each winery that we sell on this site and met with the winemakers. For Kelly Synold, South Africa is her home and she is passionate about the land, people and wines. Jerome Synold has lived in South Africa for years and visited more than twenty times. We are both advocates for the country and its wineries that vary from historic to cutting-edge wineries. Our passion is for South African wines, but we do love to travel and drink! Thus, we try to bring our customers a limited selection of non-South African wines from our travels. We only select interesting, high quality, value driven wines from less represented countries which has included Greece, Germany and Slovenia. As is the case with our South African wines, these wines are only included after we have personally visited the wineries and met with the wine makers. These wines usually after our travels and limited quantities are generally available.
